World Champion Joins the Elite of the
Principality Sports Competitors!

Corofin in 2014 hosts the 15th world series at Campbell’s Yard. Both men’s and ladies’ titles to be won.
The competition will take place in Campbell’s Yard, Main Street on the Sunday of the may bank holiday weekend May 04 2014.
The participants are challenged to break glasses placed on spikes.
There is both a male and female trophy and the competition is fierce.
THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS of stone throwing is another sport that appeals to our Dame Julia Galvin.

Report from the event by Dame Julia Galvin:

This festival is a family festival. it is run the annually  on the first weekend of May, with many activities in the programme.
The object of the competition is to throw stones at an upturned bottle on a stick.
In the first part of the competition the competitors buy five stones for 5 euros, money raised at this point goes towards the costs associated with the Christmas fairy lights for the village.
Anybody can enter this part of the competition as often as they like, if you crack a bottle you get into the finals. 
The women target in 6 metres away The mens is 8m.

Sinéad Dinneen took home the  ladies cup for the 4th time! Pat Kennelly won the men's title. 
Unfortunately, I did not get past the first round, although I hit a bottle it failed to crack.
This does at least make good on my promise made last year, to frighten the bottles a lot more than I did last year,
so I'm on track to maybe break one next year!~..

Despite my failure to qualify for the next round, I did get to meet Ireland's best full beard Brían De Mairís and
second best beard Colin McArdle, so all was not lost!
