To His Royal Highness Prince Leonard.

Please accept my condolences on your loss in the passing of HRH Princess Shirley. While I unfortunately was not able to meet her, I've read much about her, and have heard wonderful things both from people in Hutt River and the many visitors who encountered her and remarked on her amazing hospitality and warmth.

I can't imagine losing a spouse, particularly after being partners with them for so many years. You and your family remain in my thoughts.

I know that you're a very spiritual man, and so I've enclosed my favorite quote, by G. K. Chesterton:

The vault above us is not deaf because the universe is an idiot; the silence is not the heartless silence of an endless and aimless world. Rather the silence around us is a small and pitiful stillness like the prompt stillness in a sick room. We are perhaps permitted tragedy as a sort of merciful comedy: because the frantic energy of divine things would knock us down like a drunken farce. We can take our own tears more lightly than we could take the tremendous levities of the angels. So we sit perhaps in a starry chamber of silence, while the laughter of the heavens is too loud for us to hear.

Sincerely,
Andrew Heaton, MsC

To His Royal Highness Prince Leonard,

Please accept the condolences of my wife Patricia and myself on your loss in the passing of HRH Princess Shirley. Unfortunately we did not have the pleasure of meeting her or yourself but have felt we have known both of you both through our friend David Burkart in Florida who told us of the wonderful things you have done together in the name of your principality.

Loss of one partner is the greatest loss of all, and being married for 66 years are you were is especially hard to accept. My wife and I have been married only 54 years and to lose her would simply be too difficult to imagine.

So although we are strangers in one sense we are together in many other ways.
We shall pray for you and your family and God walk beside you always.

Dear Prince Leonard and Family

It is with great sadness that I am writing this letter of condolence to you all. I know what it is like to lose a mother and I can sympathise wholeheartedly with how you feel at this time.

HRH Princess Shirley was a fantastic hostess and I will always remember the day of my own investiture, I was so proud to have my medal pinned on by the lady herself.  HRH Princess Shirley looked fantastic in her tiara and Royal regalia. I cannot forget her ever smiling face.

I was a great honour to have met such a fantastic woman. I will try my best to keep my promise to HRH Princess Shirley and continue to promote the PHR in any way that I can.

I am in Finland at the moment and I have brought my flag with me and is at half mast. I regret that I cannot attend the Service on Friday but my heart is with you all at this difficult time.

It is very sad news to hear of HRH Princess Shirley passing.

When I had the great fortune to be able to visit the Principality of Hutt River in 2010 with the Royal Enfield Club of Australia I was lucky enough to meet HRH Princess Shirley and found her to be a warm, friendly and engaging person who was very generous to us when we stayed.

Could you please pass on my condolences to HRH Prince Leonard and his family and let them know that my thoughts are with them in their time of bereavement.

Kind regards

Dear Prince Leonard,

It is with great sadness that I just now read the news regarding the passing of HRH Princess Shirley back in July.

Please accept my deepest condolences.

I still have very fond memories of our visit to Hutt River and meeting Princess Shirley.
We were grateful for the kindness and hospitality that she exhibited during our stay.

And one of my career highlights was sharing the stage with the two of you at the Sydney Film Festival a few years back.
I'm so happy the both of you celebrated the release of the film with me; and I'm thrilled that Princess Shirley's sweet spirit was captured in the documentary. She will be missed.

Sending very kind wishes to you and your family.

Sincerely,

Dear Prince Leonard and Family.

We have just been discussing you with our Friends about our wonderful visits to your Province.
On the site we noticed the Passing of your wonderful Princess Shirley.
We are so very saddened by the news and will always remember you both with such fond memories.
You both made my Husband Bruce and I so very welcome on our visit in 2013.

Our wonderful friends were there in 2010 and Princess Shirley was there for them, however they were not lucky to meet you.
We still think our visit to you was one of our highlights of our trip.

Please keep up the wonderful work and our thoughts are with you all.

All the best,
Bruce and Lyn Abbott.
